This post is from Out the Other's 2010 Bonnaroo Artist Previews, where I will be posting previews of all the musical acts playing the 2010 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Please check out and subscribe to the full site to learn more about all of this year's performers.
It seems appropriate that I preview Miike Snow next because I just saw the band on MTV - apparently they're playing the MTV Movie Awards after party right now. Which means I really hope that Sandra Bullock and Marky Mark and Betty White are dancing their asses off to "Animal," the way I will be this Thursday night.
Splashing onto the scene last year with one of my favorite tunes of 2009, Miike Snow isn't a dude with parents who can't spell very well, it's actually a band of three dudes - two from Sweden and one from New York. Lead singer Andrew Wyatt along with the producing team of Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg banded together in 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden, where they recorded their debut album, Miike Snow. Released last year, it's electro indie-pop prepped for the dance floor, with an obvious high point in the single "Animal." The rest of the album is (almost as) great as well, but that opening track is so damn good you might never make it to the rest of the record.
Not only have Miike Snow tunes been popping up all over television (Gossip Girl, Jersey Shore, Melrose Place, Cougar Town, Chuck and more), they've also been working hard with the remixes - the group has mixed tracks for Passion Pit, Kings of Leon, Peter Bjorn and John and Vampire Weekend. Their summer tour of the festival circuit will bring them to Bonnaroo this week before they hit Glastonbury, Roskilde, Oya and Pukkelpop within the next two months.
Miike Snow will play the This Tent on Thursday from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
