Thursday feels like the real first day of the festival, which is no surprise really, considering the fact that there are fifteen different showcases for you to choose from, or hop in between. Yes, FIFTEEN. It's enough to make your head spin, which is one of the main reasons I decided to do these showcase-by-showcase preview posts in the first place.
This is going to be a night of tough decisions no matter what your tastes in music veer towards - you've got several different brands of rock and singer-songwriter stuff to choose from. Highlights for me include the Grand Palace Showcase at the End - with The Kindergarten Circus, Hotpipes, Glossary and Hands Down Eugene; the lineup at Exit/In, which includes Dead Confederate and The Protomen; the atmospheric/electronic/slightly left of center lineup at The Anchor with Hollow Ox, Canon Blue, Timbre and The Ascent of Everest; and the in-the-round at the Bluebird Cafe, which will feature Dan Wilson (Semisonic), Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra), Daniel Tashian (The Silver Seas) and Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket). I'm a TTWS fan from way back, so the thought of running into Glen Phillips this week makes me a little giddy, to be completely honest.
And to continue being honest, I'm pretty sure I'd be thrilled to end up at any of the showcases taking place on Thursday night - it just sucks that they're all happening at the same time. But I'm pretty sure my number one pick is the lineup at The Rutledge, featuring a lot of local OTO up-and-comer favorites. The Hannah Barbarians, Altered Statesmen, Eastern Block, And the Relatives, All We Seabees and Eureka Gold are the bands comprising the bill, and you really can't go wrong with any of those acts, especially if you haven't seen some of them yet. If you're going to camp out in one place for the night, that's my recommendation to you.
The full schedule with lots (and I mean LOTS) of mp3s, after the jump.
*Just a quick note - I wasn't sure what order to put the venues in, so I decided to pair the venues that are super close to each other - Mercy & Cannery, The End & Exit/In, 12th and Porter & Lot 7, 3rd and Lindsley & The Anchor. That way it's easier to see at a glance what you can quickly hop between. The rest of the venues are in alphabetical order.
