It's funny, being a DJ and a blogger has turned me into what I would call a pretty "active" listener - which means that I tend to always be the one choosing what I'm listening to. I guess that would be a opposed to a more passive listener - someone who listens to the radio more frequently and is less likely to be constantly selecting what they're in the mood to be listening to.
That said, I think being that kind of listener makes me even MORE excited when I hear a great song I wasn't expecting, because familiar music rarely catches me off guard these days. It's even more exciting when it's a song I had completely forgotten about. Last night I was digging through CDs planning tonight's show, and I pulled out a mix CD just called "Spoon & Such - 4/25/04." I had no idea what was on it, so I popped it in my computer - and was hit with this ridiculously great mix of whatever I was probably downloading off of Epitonic four years ago.
Tucked into the middle of the mix was The Mendoza Line's "A Damn Good Disguise" - a track I'm pretty certain I haven't heard in YEARS. I had completely forgotten about it, and it practically floored me. I had almost forgotten how incredible that feels.
Here's that tune and a few more from "Spoon & Such":
The Mendoza Line - "A Damn Good Disguise" (from Lost in Revelry)
Kings of Leon - "Wicker Chair" (from Holy Roller Novocaine)
Stephen Malkmus - "The Hook" (from Stephen Malkmus)
Ozma - "The Business of Getting Down" (from The Doubble Donkey Disc)
Spoon - "Jonathon Fisk" (from Kill the Moonlight)
