Tomorrow's show is the last Out the Other of the spring semester - on Sunday all the potential summer DJs are meeting to turn in our applications for the summer schedule, which means that after tomorrow, most likely my timeslot will be changing (I should be back to two hours, and hopefully I'll be moving back to a weeknight). To be honest, I'm still not sure what I'm going to play for most of the show, but I definitely have my featured album picked out.
I've been head over heels for French Kicks for quite a few years now, and 2006's Two Thousand was absolutely one of my favorite albums of that year. I knew we were due for a follow-up in 2008, but when Swimming stealthily appeared on iTunes last month, I was surprised at how quickly it came out. The album was entirely produced and mixed by the band itself (a first), and while it definitely sounds different than any of their albums to date, it also sounds like the obvious next step down the path from Two Thousand. Here's the first track:
"Abandon"
Amazing, right? Swimming won't see a physical release until May 20, but I'll be playing three tracks off of the album on tomorrow's show. And if you're a French Kicks fan, make sure you mark your calendar for June 10, because they'll be playing Exit/In along with Frightened Rabbit (!!!).
Like I said, I'm not sure what else is on the menu tomorrow afternoon - absolutely the concert calendar and all that fun stuff, but I'll have to spend some time later today choosing some particularly excellent songs.
Tune in tomorrow at 2!
