Okay, sorry I didn't get this posted this morning - the internet was being wacky at home and I'm having to resort to lunchtime blogging. But if you caught the radio show this past weekend or you've been keeping an eye on the concert calendar, you already know that Tokyo Police Club is in town tonight to play over at Exit/In - and hopefully you're excited about the show as I am.
I kinda saw the band last March - and I say "kinda" because it was only kinda Tokyo Police Club. When the band stopped at Mercy Lounge with Cold War Kids and Delta Spirit last year, their drummer was unfortunately ill, and they had to play their set without him. A portion of the show consisted of the drummer-less band playing some scaled-back versions of their songs, while the rest was the craziest indie rock drum circle I've ever seen. No really - read what I wrote about it then.
So yeah, that means I'm pretty much seeing Tokyo Police Club tonight for the first time. And I'm excited, because I've been rocking their their new album, Elephant Shell, for the past few days and it's damn catchy. The record will be out on Saddle Creek on April 22, but here's a little taste:
"Your English Is Good"
(whoops - that mp3 isn't kosher yet, but you can nab the 7" slightly less polished version of "Your English Is Good" over on eMusic)
Here's a nice little Saddle Creek-approved tune:
And a tune off of their old EP:
Opening the show is Nebraska's Eagle*Seagull, a band I caught at the 5 Spot in February 2006 and definitely enjoyed, so I'm interested in checking them out now that it's more than two years later. The cover is $12, the show is 18+, and I hear that Exit/In shows have been super punctual lately so make sure you're there at 9.
Here's an Eagle*Seagull tune too:
I thought the show was pretty great tonight. As a displaced Nebraskan I've been following Eagle*Seagull for some time but didn't get a chance to see then until they were in New York this past year for CMJ. The fact that their new record isn't out until September is a major bummer. Alas. Such is rock.
