Really, it's been less than a month and a half since The Felice Brothers first came to my attention via a post by my friend Ryan on Muzzle of Bees, but I have been super, SUPER excited about tonight ever since - excited enough to make it feel like I've been waiting ages for this show to roll into town. The band will be playing tonight at Mercy Lounge, and if I trust the opinions of some of my favorite music-loving friends (and I do), all signs point to this being a pretty spectacular evening.
I featured The Felice Brothers - the band's new self-titled album - on the show back around its release at the beginning of March, and even though I said at the time that I was "madly in love" with the record, I fell even more head-over-heels after taking it on my road trip to Austin. Because the Felice Brothers (three actual brothers, along with two of their friends) play music that feels like it was created for road trips, perfect for long days spent driving through Texas with hazy sunshine and the road stretched out in either direction. It's music to get lost in - slow stories filled with barrooms and women, pistols and whiskey - with a sound that channels Bob Dylan and all of the brothers' Catskill roots. It's scruffy and a little dirty and certainly a bit ragged around the edges, but it also sounds like the kind of stuff that will translate perfectly to a well-worn stage.
Rounding out tonight's bill are local boy Justin Townes Earle, along with Omaha's McCarthy Trenching. The show should get started at 9 p.m., and it's 18+ and only $10 at the door. See you there!

"Frankie's Gun"
Oh and I almost forgot the PS - if for SOME reason you miss the show tonight (or if you go to the show tonight and you're immediately desperate to see the Felice Brothers again immediately), the band will be playing again tomorrow afternoon at Grimey's at 12:30 p.m. A great reason to take a super long lunch on a Friday!
