Tomorrow is a day that just might become one of my new favorite holidays. April 19, 2008 is Record Store Day - a date singled to celebrate all of the independently owned music stores across the country. Here in Nashville, you know I'm a HUGE fan of Grimey's New & Preloved Music, my neighborhood indie record shop (and the gracious underwriter of my show on WRVU). In addition to all of the fantastic in-store performances and events they hold over the course of the year, Grimey's also holds two HUGE outdoor parties and sales (one in the spring, one in the fall), and they've chosen Record Store Day as the date of their spring party tomorrow.
So what does that mean? After the jump, check out the poster listing all of the awesomeness going on at Grimey's tomorrow. WRVU will be at the the event as well, and I'll actually be heading over to the party after my show tomorrow to hang out at the WRVU table until about 5 p.m.
And what exactly does this have to do with the show? Well, I'm going to do my part on Record Store Day by giving you a taste of the goodness you can head out and buy at your local independently owned record shop! And since I plan on hitting Grimey's tomorrow before I head to the station, hopefully I'll be able to share some of the Record Store Day exclusives that different artists are only making available at locations participating in the event. Sound good?
I'll still be rocking a featured album of the week - this past Tuesday saw the release of Frightened Rabbit's The Midnight Organ Fight, an album I'm madly in love with by a band I was THRILLED to see appear on Exit/In's upcoming shows calendar. I'll be sharing three songs off the album, but here's a taste first (since I totally can't play this one on the air):
Frightened Rabbit - "Keep Yourself Warm"
Oh and if you live in East Nashville, make sure you check out YOUR friendly neighborhood indie record shop - The Groove. The Groove is still relatively new to Nashville, but they'll be making a big splash tomorrow for Record Store Day with performances by Aaron Robinson, Eureka Gold, The Nobility, Meemaw, JEFF and tons more. Their full lineup (and details of their awesome sale) can be found here.
Grimey's poster after the jump!
I'm really digging the Frightened Rabbits.
