Okay, two quick things - because I have had two late nights, which doesn't leave me much time for blogging in the morning - before I head off to work. There are a few shows going on this weekend but I want to bring two to your attention - one tonight and one tomorrow night:
First up tonight - for the second night in a row, Kings of Leon, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Manchester Orchestra are playing the Ryman. I got a chance to see the show last night, and hopefully I'll have time to write a little bit more about it over the weekend, but in the meantime I highly recommend checking it out. All three bands were fantastic - Manchester Orchestra played to a fairly empty room but sounded great in the Ryman, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club sounded 500% better than they did a few months ago at City Hall (and I even liked that City Hall show), and Kings of Leon, who made little to no impression on me the only other time I've seen them in Nashville (about three years ago) did an amazing, amazing job. I was pretty skeptical since it seems like only the Brits love them, but it really did feel like a triumphant homecoming - the Ryman was just full of people who were crazy about Kings of Leon and even if I hadn't been impressed with the show they put on (and I was), the excitement and energy in that place still would have been contagious.
Kings of Leon - "Knocked Up"
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Berlin"
Manchester Orchestra - "Brother (Annuals cover)"
Then tomorrow - listen to my radio show - it's a super long one from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. And I'm GIVING AWAY SPOON TICKETS More on that in a minute in another post.
But tomorrow night's really where it's at. My concert pick of the week is Hotpipes and The Howlies over at 3 Crow Bar in East Nashville, which promises to be a great time. Of course by now you know how much I love Hotpipes, but it's been a while since I've seen them do a proper show and since then they've been working on a bunch of new material. The boys sent some demos my way and I LOVE all the new tunes, so I can't wait to see them live. I have yet to see The Howlies play, but I heard nothing but good things after their set at the Grimey's outdoor bash a few weeks ago, and I've been playing the crap out of their EP ever since I got it. I'm very, very excited about this one - you should be too!
Hotpipes - "Women of the World Agree"
The Howlies - "Walk On Home"
