I've actually had a draft of this post saved since the end of May, which is when I heard Misha for the first time thanks to Travis over at Big Stereo (which has absolutely become one of my favorite blogs in the past few months, by the way). I don't really have any excuses for not getting this posted before today, except for the fact that I was spending too much time listening to Teardrop Sweetheart to be able to stop and actually write about it. Regardless, the album drops tomorrow on Tomlab and it's about time I shared it with you.
As my recent workout mix probably indicates, I've been in the mood for kind of dance-y stuff lately, and while Teardrop Sweetheart isn't exactly full of summer bangers, it certainly has that touch of bounce and beat that I've been craving. One of the tracks on the album, "Weatherbees," even scored a spot on TOTIWO2, and it's pretty indicative of what you can expect from Misha - effervescent summer pop with electronic glitches, soaring choruses and the kind of little quirks and touches that keep things as fresh as the stuff you'd find at your local summer produce stand. I've been calling it a cross between Lo-Fi-Fnk and Peter, Bjorn and John, and although that might not be the perfect assessment, in my mind that's exactly where Misha sits on my personal scale of musical deliciousness.
Beautifully enough, this also falls into the category of albums I was describing while praising Miracle Fortress the other day - albums that are best consumed as a whole. Each song is like a tasty little bite of the yummiest summer ice cream sundae on a 85-degree day, sweet as can be but really you have to just eat the whole thing to be satisfied.
"Scars"
"Delovedly"
You can pick up Teardrop Sweetheart pretty much anywhere tomorrow, but if you're incredibly impatient it's already available on eMusic (and iTunes). It's actually been available on eMusic for a few weeks - sorry for depriving you for so long!
Dear Janet and OTO! Thank you very much for your very kind and sweet words--ice cream sunday indeed! We're glad you like the album! And maybe we'll see you on tour! To be fair, one of our ex-bandmates heard the PB&J song with the whistling and thought it was us. (If only!!!) :)
bye and thanks again!!
