I think life is finally back to normal now that I've been home for week, although I'm pretty sure I wouldn't mind still sleeping for twelve hours a night. But while tonight's show will definitely be getting back to the regular format, you're still going to see a bit of a SXSW influence, particularly because the featured album of the week is from an artist I (kinda) saw while in Austin. Jamie T played the same Zune/NME party where I got the chance to see (and meet) The Sunshine Underground for the first time, and while I was chatting with our new friends during his set, he certainly sounded great enough for me to make a mental note to check out his record later. And Panic Prevention is even better than I expected it to be - with temperatures in Nashville hitting the mid-80s for the past few days it has been an excellent soundtrack to our first dose of summer, and it has that fun, laid-back sound that just seems perfect this time of year. Jamie T has been drawing comparisons to The Streets, but coming from my background I keep thinking of him as a punkier, British G. Love. Unfortunately Panic Prevention is only available as an import right now in the US, but you'll have the chance to hear three songs off the album on the show tonight.
As for the free mp3 of the week, this one comes from a band I missed entirely at SXSW (hey, you can't be everywhere at once), but I've been digging their new record Night of the Furies, which comes out on April 10. With "Get Up Get Out," The Rosebuds are rocking a different kind of summer sound, though it's equally as fun. I actually wasn't sure what to make of the track when I first heard it, the synths and vocals seem an odd mix of dramatic and perky, but the more I listened, the more I love it. Plus, it keeps getting stuck in my head
Also on the agenda tonight - something from the other two records I've been playing like crazy - Kings of Leon's Because of the Times and Pop Levi's The Return To Form Black Magick Party. And the rest? Well, you'll just have to tune in at 8 to find out.
