It's a little sad when you discover a band that has already come and gone.
I'm going to the Basement tonight with Todd to see Aaron Robinson, formerly the lead singer of Imaginary Baseball League. I first heard of IBL this summer when someone called my show to request them, and I played the fantastic track "Fat Boys are Not Athletes" because I liked its silly name. When I told Todd that the one up-tempo song was the extent of my familiarity with the band, he told me it wasn't very typical, and now that I'm actually listening to their final 2004 release, Revive, I'm realizing he was right.
You usually won't find me promoting a band that's now defunct; I know I prefer to hear about artists that I still have a chance of seeing live. But I am excited to see Aaron Robinson tonight - if his solo material sounds anything like what I'm hearing right on Revive, I have a feeling I'll love it. Sadly, I can't visit his MySpace page right now (my company doesn't really believe in MySpace, can't say I blame them) but you can check it out and let me know what you think.
In the meantime, I'll continue to listen to Imaginary Baseball League. The band offers up a number of mp3s on their website, as well as Revive in its entirety. I guarantee it's worth a listen.
