I don't know what's more impressive - the fact that Brooklyn's Boy Crisis have slipped their dancey post-disco electro-rock past my radar, or the fact that they manage to name drop Woodrow Wilson in their track "Dressed to Digress" while keeping a straight face. Then again, judging by their fun-loving sound and goofy style (pictured above), I doubt there's such a thing as a straight face when it comes to Boy Crisis.
Initially formed at Wesleyan University in 2005 by friends Tal Rozen, Alex Kestner and Victor Vazquez (Vazquez is also one half of Das Rascist, who you might recognize from their tune "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell"), the group didn't start playing shows until Lee Pender and Owen Roberts joined up two years later. In 2008 they made waves on the blog circuit with songs like "Dressed to Digress" and "Strawberries," and it looks like their debut album Tulipomania came out in the UK last year, though it's no longer available as an import on Amazon. Whether that means it's set to see a stateside release sometime in 2010 or not, I'm not sure - but at least we'll get to check out their brand of goofy ridiculousness during a Friday afternoon dance party at Bonnaroo next week.
