I think this is going to be awesome - I just hope we don't see his ass (that's totally NSFW, by the way).
The whole King Khan thing is hella confusing to me - there's King Khan & The Shrines and King Khan & BBQ Show, and until about two minutes ago I didn't know the difference. But according to wikipedia, the story goes a little bit like this (I don't know if any of this is true, or if the timeline is accurate, but it sounds good to me):
- First there was a Montreal-based garage band called The Spaceshits, which included a dude named Blacksnake and a dude named BBQ. The Spaceshits went on tour to Europe and Blacksnake decided to stay in Germany, so the band broke up.
- While in Berlin, Blacksnake changed his pseudonym to King Khan, and formed a new psychedelic soul and garage rock band called King Khan & The Shrines (also sometimes called King Khan & His Sensational Shrines). They have released four albums since 2001, and in June of this year Vice released The Supreme Genius of King Khan & The Shrines, which is kinda like a greatest-hits deal. And it's KICK ASS.
- In the meantime BBQ veentured off to do his own one-man band thing, and eventually got back in touch with his buddy Blacksnake/King Khan. BBQ played a few shows alongside The Shrines, and eventually the two started to write songs together and play sporadic shows around Germany and Spain. Now they've recorded two albums together - The King Khan & BBQ Show LP, and What's For Dinner?
So The King Khan & BBQ Show are going to be at Mercy Lounge on Thursday November 20. Tickets are available now - they're $10 and the show is 18+. Now that you've heard the King Khan story, mark your calendar and get your listen on:
