Okay really all of this exciting news about The Walkmen circles around their new album, but I'll get to that in a second. First, the most excitingest thing of all:
#1. The Walkmen will play The Basement on Monday, October 13. Yes, the teeny tiny, itty bitty Basement. This was actually supposed to happen when the band was en route to SXSW about a year and a half ago but things fell through, so I'm thrilled that now it's really going to happen. This one will sell out (obviously) so Grimey's will be selling advance tickets - I'll give you the heads up as soon as I hear that these are available. If you've seen the Walkmen before, I'm sure this news just made your day; if you haven't, I can't even begin to describe how amazing it is that your first live Walkmen experience will be at one of the most intimate (and dare I say best) venues in Nashville.
#2. The Walkmen have a new album out - You & Me - and it's available now as a $5 charity download. Yup that's right. The album is officially coming out on August 19, but last week the band surprised us all by releasing the album as a $5 download on AmieStreet.com. You & Me will be available that way for only three weeks (I believe until the physical release on the 19th), and all proceeds - yup, your entire $5 - goes to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in honor of Luca Vasallo, a friend to the band and a current patient who is seven months old.
#3. Grimey's will be celebrating the physical release of You & Me on August 19 with an in-store performance - Grimey's staffers covering the Walkmen. I've actually been hearing about this for a while and I think it's awesome that it's really going to happen, and while I'm not sure who's officially in the lineup, I believe it's Jon from Hotpipes, Rollum and Ryan from The Privates and Luke from Lylas and Cortney Tidwell's band. Half the music-making boys I've met in Nashville are borderline obsessed with The Walkmen, so I'm a little surprised this hasn't happened sooner. The in-store is at 6 p.m., and Grimey's gigs are always a good time, so mark your calendar for this one.
#4. The Walkmen recorded a Daytrotter Session . It's up now, and I think it's all Neil Hagerty covers.
That's all the exciting Walkmen news for now. Go download You & Me already!

can't wait! thanks for making my day, really! *squeal*
