Passenger - "Night Vision Binoculars"
This tune had me toe-tapping at my desk for at least fifteen minutes straight today. I initially thought the vocals might be a little off-putting, but that wasn't the case at all - and from the blippy video-game sounds that chirp away in the background to the bouncy, cheery chorus, "Night Vision Binoculars" is the perkiest song about... um... stalking that I've ever heard. No really - listen closely and you'll hear that he's creeping around in the neighbor's tree with those night vision binoculars in the title, and he even rhymes "social disorders" with "restraining orders." Awesome? Creepy? Whatever - it definitely brightened my office-bound afternoon. (Seriously, I'll have to do a monday morning mini-mix about stalking songs someday - I can think of a few great ones.) Passenger is from Brighton in the UK, and this track can be found on Wicked Man's Rest, which will be out on Cooking Vinyl on August 5.

Menomena is one of my favorite "discoveries" of the past two years, so of course I was instantly interested in any kind of side project associated with the band. Drummer Danny Seim is also responsible for an act called Lackthereof - and while I'm not clear on what he's actually already released under that name (supposedly six CD-Rs and one album on FILMguerrero?), I do for a fact know that he has first release coming out on Barsuk Records on July 22nd. "Last November" is our first taste of Your Anchor, and well... it's pretty tasty.
and a bonus: here's an older Lackthereof tune that made the rounds last fall, supposedly off of My Haunted, which I can't seem to find. It's haunting and amazing and I forgot about it until just now:
