Free Liars show tomorrow at Grimey's!

Here comes the weekend, and it looks like it's going to be yet another busy one - lots of shows going on, my first Out the Other in the Saturday timeslot (which you should totally listen to - stay tuned for a show preview), and a little dose of hot summer weather to make you forget that the first day of fall is this Sunday.
One of the big shows this weekend is Interpol at the Ryman tomorrow night, and while I was kinda interested in checking it out (I actually like their new album), the main reason I considered going was to see the show's opener, Liars. I've been really, really digging their new album, Liars, which came out at the end of last month, and I'm definitely psyched about the opportunity to see them live, but I wasn't sure I wanted to commit to the show at the Ryman. Well lovely news for everyone who feels the same way (or doesn't love Interpol) - Liars will be playing at Grimey's tomorrow at 3 p.m. for an incredibly reasonable price - FREE.
Yet again, Grimey's is providing us with the perfect way to check out another amazing band, and I'm guessing an intimate face-to-face in your favorite record shop might be an even better introduction than seeing the band in the historic Ryman. And while you're there tomorrow afternoon, by all means pick up a copy of Liars - it's absolutely worth it.
I think that "Houseclouds" was the first track on the album that grabbed my attention - it's the catchiest song here and has a definite Kasabian-ish vibe about it that reminds me of something from that band's first album (others have compared the tune to something Beck might come up with). And catchy is a term I really didn't expect to apply to Liars; their reputation for noisy weirdness is really the reason I kept the band at arm's length even when everyone adored their previous release. But the songs here have impressively addictive beats, moments that sound borrowed from Led Zeppelin's catalog, and this captivating murky, underwater guitar sound that I absolutely love. It's a huge-sounding album, if you know what I mean. Even the tracks that don't sound echo-y sound like they were made for giant, pitch-dark spaces.
"Houseclouds"
"Freak Out"
Liars will bring their big, big sound to small, small Grimey's tomorrow at 3 p.m. I'm calling this one not to be missed.

If only they were planning on doing this in Southern California...
