So today is my 26th birthday. I love birthdays and I've already been using it as an excuse for extra fun this week (and by "fun" I mean "drinks"), but I have to admit that for some reason 26 is feeling a little bit scarier than 25 was. I think part of it has to do with the fact that 25 is the last exciting milestone of a birthday - as exciting as lower car insurance premiums and the ability to rent cars can be - but mostly I think it's because 26 seems way older than 25 to me. Silly, I know. And I'll totally stop whining about being old now because I've honestly been carded at an R-rated movie within the last year.
Anywho, in true music blogger fashion (or hobbit fashion, if you will), I'm celebrating my birthday by giving you the present. And the present today? Why it's the Cover Me, I'm Goin' In Mix.
I got the idea for this one over the summer when I did a two-hour covers show on WRVU, and my friend Michael and I talked about making a cover mix for his Summer Mix Series. Since then I've been listening to some of my favorite covers and digging up a handful of new ones, and I sorted and trimmed and mixed and stirred and ended up with a perfect little mix of Out the Other favorites doing covers of some amazing, amazing tunes. Mostly tunes this 26 year-old grew up with, so I think this is a pretty appropriate birthday mix.
So here you go, the Cover Me, I'm Goin' In Mix. The whole thing clocks in at just under an hour and it's best served whole, but I tossed in a few loose mp3s to give you a taste of what to expect:
