Cleaning out the inbox
Seriously, I have to apologize. My inbox is sooo freaking backed up sometimes it's a little overwhelming. And I know there's all kinds of music lurking in there, it's just hard to go through, email by email, to sort out what's what (and actually attempt to keep up with correspondence too). SO, I'm going to do a little purge of my inbox right now, but it's all goodness, I promise:
Spencer Dickinson - "That's a Drag"
John Spencer (from Blues Explosion) teamed up with Luther and Cody Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars, and this track from The Man Who Lives For Love is a little rock 'n roll explosion of its own - kinda funky, yowly and well... good. The album's out on Yep Roc on August 22.
Have we talked about how much I love Snowden? Um, yes... we have. Many times. But their album comes out on August 22 too, so I might as well talk it up a little bit more. Plus they're in town on August 30. So listen to the title track off Anti-Anti and get ready to come out to the Basement in a few weeks.
This one has been chillin' in the inbox for MONTHS. Someone sent me three tracks by the band, citing my Maritime mentions and telling me that the guy who produced their record is actually in this group. While the other two songs didn't really stick with me, this one has a charming little beat (French Kicks-ish, in my opinion) and a cool synthy layer that I dig.
The Sky Drops - "Now Would Be"
I think a few other blogs have posted this one, and for good reason. While the track might not have grabbed me on the first listen, "Now Would Be" is what I would call sweeping, and I appreciated it much more after a few times through. It is a little repetitive, but the song never gets annoying and the guitars on the chorus are just great (and where I think I came up with the silly non-musical word sweeping).
I might do this a few more times if you guys don't mind... I'm telling you, the inbox is FULL.
